Programme overview
The program is implemented by the Department of Nursing and Dental Care of the Faculty of Medicine.
Qualification to be awarded: Professional Bachelor of Health Sciences, qualification of General Practice Nurse.
Advantage. Studies. A curriculum construct based on Bruner’s (1960) concept of spiral teaching and the five-step model of evidence-based practice teaching. The programme is based on the continuous repetition of the same topics throughout the student’s studies. The programme is implemented in a modular-cyclical study system. The studies are organised in a full-time format. Practical training is carried out in sub-groups, which allows the possibility of combining studies with work.
Advantage. Real experience. The study process involves simulation training in an established Nursing Simulation Training Centre, based on real clinical situations or standardised procedural protocols. Examinations and midterm reports are organised using objectivised clinical situations and the ESCAPE method. During their studies, students carry out professional practice in various health care institutions: in Utena, Vilnius, Kaunas, Visaginas, Anykščiai, etc.
Advantage. Experience abroad. Students go to Portugal, Germany, Latvia, Italy, Greece, Norway, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Turkey to study and practice.
Career opportunities
The qualification as a general nurse involves activities in the following professional areas: promoting, enhancing and preserving the health of patients, prevention of diseases and risk factors, physical, mental and social care of healthy and sick persons, based on science and good practice.
Possibilities for further studies. After completing the General Practice Nursing study program and obtaining the Health Sciences professional bachelor’s degree, graduates can continue their studies in Lithuanian and foreign higher education institutions.
Employment opportunities. 90 per cent of graduates of the general practice nursing study program work according to the acquired qualifications, the need for nurses will remain high in the future.
