Two universities from Lithuania on the top list of ‘‘QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016‘‘

At the end of March the sixth annual edition of international university rankings ‘‘QS World University Rankings by Subject‘‘ was published with great news for the Lithuanian HE. There are two universities from Lithuania on the top list – Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) and Vilnius University (VU). For the second year, the performance of VGTU was ranked as the best from the Baltic countries for Civil & Structural Engineering, leading to the 51st to 101th place in the world, while VU shares the 301st-400th place for Physics & Astronomy. Previously, no universities from Lithuania have entered the top list. The QS World University Rankings by Subject highlights the world’s top universities in a range of popular subject areas, covering 42 subjects as of 2016. Published annually since 2011, the rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. This year QS World Rankings by Subject featured a record-breaking forty-two subject tables, i.e. this year they added six subjects to the list: anthropology, archaeology, mining engineering, nursing, performing arts and social policy.
