Lithuanian institutions among most international universities in Europe

After the announcement of Erasmus international students and staff’s exchange statistics for 2010-2011, it turned out that six Lithuanian universities are among 100 of the most international Universities in Europe. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU), which drafted in 144 teachers for traineeship abroad, took 24th place in the European university lecturers’ mobility ranking, Vilnius University (VU) that has drafted 117 university lecturers was ranked 43rd, Vilnius College (90 lecturers)  – 69th, Mykolas Romeris University (87 lecturers) – 75th, Kaunas University of Technology (85 lecturers) – 81th and Vytautas Magnus University – 91st (81 lecturers).

In addition, in the students’ mobility list VU and VGTU were ranked 52nd and 69th respectively.

The internationalisation of Lithuanian universities has been increasing each year since 2000. According to the statistics presented by Education Exchange Support Foundation, in 2011-2012, 3548 students went abroad either for studies or traineeship and 928 Lithuanian university teachers went to foreign institutions to deliver lectures.
