AYOL member: Azerbaijan discovers Lithuania

We are happy to share an article written by a member of AYOL – Azerbaijani Youth Organization of Lithuania, Aysel Sultan. There are currently more than a hundred students from Azerbaijan in Lithuania, an increase of 100% over the last academic year.

Explicitly seen how relations between Azerbaijan and Lithuania are interchanging, growing and consolidating year by year. This, of course, would not have been possible, if not the constant attention, care and initiations by governments of both countries. Such intensive growth is notable almost in every sphere, and education is, naturally, no exception, on the contrary, it is one of the most important sides of the enhancing friendship between two countries.

According to the Order 1746 of October 19, 2006, issued by the President of Azerbaijan Republic on “State Program for the study of Azerbaijani youth abroad” young people are provided with opportunity to obtain certain scientific degree abroad in the required for the country specialties and ensure their personnel participation in the development of the country. “State Program for study of Azerbaijani youth abroad for 2007-2015” was prepared based on the mentioned Order, which serves to establish a single system to organize the study of Azerbaijani youth abroad. Exact number of 34 countries is included in the list with the choice option of 476 Universities.

Just recently, in 2011 Lithuania was added to the list too, at the beginning with 2 Universities. However, later the number grew up to 5 Universitites, gratefully to immediate and fruitful activities of the current Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Lithuania Mr. Hasan Mammadzada. His constant attention to strengthen the bounds between two countries and initiation for creating best opportunities for students coming to Lithuania served a great deal in adding 3 more Universities to the governmental study program, thus, students may study in best Universities of different cities of Lithuania. The list of Universities currently contained in the programme is provided below:

  1. Kaunas University of Technology
  2. Lithuanian University of Health Sciences
  3. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University
  4. Vilnius University
  5. Vytautas Magnus University

Undoubtedly, mutual visits of University delegations of both countries played a significant role in creating a start point for better cooperation and understanding between educational institutions. Sincerely, we are hoping for strengthening and improving relations, so that both countries may always benefit of this friendship.
