About FTMC 

The Center for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC) is the largest scientific research institution in Lithuania, conducting cutting-edge fundamental research and technological development. FTMC’s research spans key areas such as laser technologies, photonics, materials science, chemistry, electronics, nuclear physics, and nanotechnologies.    

FTMC was established in 2010 by joining institutes of Chemistry, Physics, Semiconductor Physics in Vilnius and Textile institute in Kaunas. Over the recent years the Center combining different science branches has become one of the leading scientific institutions in Lithuania.

Our Achievements

  • In 2025, FTMC launched the Lithuanian Chips Competence Centre ChipsC²-LT, strengthening the national semiconductor ecosystem and science–industry collaboration. 
  • In 2025, FTMC secured 8 US patents, filed 15 new applications, and delivered 1,200+ R&D services to industry, demonstrating strong technology transfer and real-world impact. 
  • FTMC is internationally recognized for excellence in laser technologies, photonics, terahertz physics, and advanced materials. 
  • FTMC co-leads the EU-funded LASER-PRO project with partners in the Czech Republic and Ukraine, advancing sustainable manufacturing through photonics and lasers. 
  • The Centre plays a key role in developing Lithuania’s high-tech research landscape through international and cross-institutional projects.
