Programme structure
The competition for admission to the state-funded PhD studies in sociology is held once a year.
To be eligible for the open competition for admission to the PhD studies, applicants must hold a Master’s degree or an equivalent higher education qualification. It is expected that applicants will have research experience and participation in research activities. It is imperative that applicants exhibit a level of English proficiency that corresponds to the range of B2 to C2.
Before submitting your application, it is recommended that you review information about the research areas and the proposed PhD topics and supervisors of the LCSS Institute of Sociology before applying for the PhD in sociology.
If you are still undecided about the topic on which you would like to further your knowledge and write your dissertation, we suggest that you review the PhD topics and contact a potential supervisor for a consultation.
Admission Requirements
Applicants to the PhD programme will need to submit the following documents:
- An application for admission to the competition;
- A diploma, its annex/appendix, certifying a Master‘s degree or an equivalent qualification;
- The Certificate of recognition of higher education qualification acquired abroad. The document about the acquired qualification may be issued by The study quality assessment centre and also high schools upon submission of the required documents. - Two letters of recommendations from scholars in the field of sociology (dated within the last year). At least one recommendation must be from a researcher in Lithuania;
- Curriculum vitae (signed);
- List of scientific publications (with full bibliographical description) and copies of scientific articles;
- Proof of knowledge of foreign languages (Applicants from non-EU countries are required to submit documentation that demonstrates their English language proficiency is at least at the B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Alternatively, they may submit an IELTS score of 6.5 or another internationally recognised English language test);
- Research project (in electronic format);
- A copy of the personal data page of the passport or a copy of the identity card;
- Other documents as specified in the admission terms and conditions for PhD students.
