Aim of the study programme

Develop a professional who is able to  to nurse a healthy or sick person in family and community at different levels of personal health care:  social care homes, sanatoriums and at patient’s home (integral nursing) at all stages of the nursing process; demonstrate critical thinking, social responsibility, independence, ability to work in a team, a holistic approach and science-based practice.

Outcomes of the study programme

  1. Know the national and international health policy provisions.

  2. Know the limits of professional activities and responsibility, apply provisions of health legislation and professional ethics in nursing practice, and provide consultations within the limits of their professional competence.

  3. Apply knowledge of natural, biomedical, social and humanitarian sciences in the systematic assessment of the person, family and community health and decision-making in nursing practice.

  4. Perform scientific applied nursing research, interpret, analyse, summarize and present results as well as apply them in solving nursing problems.

  5. Assess the nursing needs of a patient, family, and community, and plan nursing activities.

  6. Perform and evaluate nursing actions and procedures, provide arguments for decision-making in professional situations.

  7. Prepare patients for instrumental tests and therapeutic interventions.

  8. Recognize life-threatening conditions, evaluate them and respond to them accordingly, provide emergency medical aid in the case of acute conditions and injuries.

  9. Train healthy lifestyle skills of a patient, family, and community, organize and implement health education and counseling according to health education needs.

  10. Apply the principles of nursing administration in nursing practice.

  11. Communicate and collaborate with patients and their family dealing with personal health problems, work in teams with colleagues and other experts in implementing person-centered care.

  12. Express fluently and emphatically both orally and in writing, communicate efficiently in Lithuanian and foreign languages, recognize the diversity of people and cross-cultural differences.

  13. Critically evaluate professional nursing practice, understand the importance of lifelong learning, make independent decisions and evaluate their impact on nursing practice situations, using expertise and taking responsibility.

  14. Collect and organize patient care-related information, use modern technology and information systems in nursing practice, treat confidential information properly, apply learning strategies, conduct nursing research and dissemination of nursing science and practice.

Career opportunities

Graduates can work in personal health care institutions: II and III level hospitals, primary health care institutions, hospices and rehabilitation institutions, homes for the elderly, children and young people’s care homes, general practitioners’ offices, addiction centers, military service units, as well as in the integral nursing field. Also, graduates can be enrolled in the second cycle studies by the approved procedure of the university.

Degree granting requirements

Graduate’s knowledge, skills and abilities indicated in the description of the study programme are tested and assessed in public defence of a graduation thesis (Project) and Final qualification exam. A graduation thesis (Project) is an analytical project based on independent applied research. 6 ECTS are given for preparation and defence of a graduation thesis (Project). 3 ECTS are given for Final qualification exam. 

Distinctive features of the programme

Studies are organized via the integration of different clinical disciplines, preclinical workshops are held in simulation classrooms, nursing clinical studies are held in the first level medical practice centers, and secondary level hospitals. Students are given the possibility of going to other countries’ health and rehabilitation institutions for studies and practical training under exchange programmes. Applied research skills are developed by independent scientific research.

  • Certificate of qualifications recognition issued by the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education of Lithuania (if applicable)

Note: Legalized and notarized English translations are required for all Education documents.

 

Documents needed after acceptance

  • Bank statement about sufficient means of subsistence and the funds for return (subsistence means the amount of 0.5 minimum monthly salary for one month, the amount for return to the country of origin or a foreign country to which you have the right to travel, the amount of funds – 1 minimum monthly salary)
  • Non conviction/Police Clearance certificate from the countries of residence in the last two years
  • Health certificate – issued no longer than a month prior the date of application
