Programme overview
The Medicinal Chemistry master’s study programme is designed for those aiming to contribute to the innovative pharmaceutical industry. It is a joint master’s degree offered by Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) and the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU), enriched through collaboration with international partners. The programme combines expertise from both institutions: KTU strengths in chemistry and chemical technology, and LSMU focus on pharmacy, biology, and health sciences. It prepares specialists for the discovery, development, and production of new medicines, bridging chemistry, biology, pharmacology, and pharmaceutical sciences.

Programme Structure
Medicinal Chemistry study programme at KTU emphasizes both theoretical and practical training. This programme provides students with:
- knowledge of advanced topics, including organic chemistry, spectroscopy, analytical chromatography, pharmaceutical chemistry, drug development, molecular biology, and pharmacology;
- practical research skills through projects and the completion of a final thesis;
- specialised expertise in synthetic medicinal chemistry or biomedicinal chemistry from the second year onwards;
- hands-on experience in cutting-edge facilities, including laboratories at KTU Faculty of Chemical Technology, LSMU Faculty of Pharmacy, and the shared Santaka Valley Science Center, equipped for compound synthesis, structure analysis, and property testing.
The programme offers flexible learning pathways tailored to students’ interests, as well as broad exchange possibilities.
Admission requirements
Funding opportunities
All international students automatically become candidates to receive the Scholarship for International Students, which is assigned for first-year Bachelor or Master students with strong academic records and motivation.
The residents of European Union countries and the global citizens of Lithuanian origin can apply for state-funded study places. This means that all the applicants, who fall into one of the aforementioned categories, will participate in the general admission’s competition for state-funded study places and get the chance to study free of charge, depending on their admission score.

Campus life
The main KTU Campus is within walking distance from the city centre. In the campus, university sports halls and courts, dormitories, shops and recreational areas are all nearby. KTU boasts the active student community, with 6 art societies and over 20 students’ organisations. Our students can choose from 100 weekly sports classes, and join one of 20 sports teams. All of this is free of charge.
Over 40 thousand students study in Kaunas, and of these, around 10% are international students. Lush parks, lively squares, cosy cafes and buzzing cultural life make Kaunas attractive not only as a travel destination but also as a place to live.
