Programme overview

Maybe you will be the one to create an artificial heart? Yes – it’s possible here in Lithuania. Modern medicine would be unthinkable without engineering. Medical engineers are at the heart of healthcare innovation: they design artificial organs and assistive devices, develop advanced imaging methods, and create systems that improve diagnosis, treatment, and patient care.
Did you know? In Lithuania alone, an average of 115 hip joints are replaced every day with endoprostheses designed and manufactured by medical engineers.

Main Study Modules

  • Materials in Medicine
  • Biomechanics
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology
  • Design of Medical, Rehabilitation, Orthopedic, Assistive Devices, and Artificial Organs
  • Basics of Medical Data Processing
  • Design of Medical Engineering Systems

What will I be able to do?

As a graduate, you will be able to:

  • combine knowledge of science, human anatomy, biomechanics, and engineering to solve real healthcare challenges
  • identify problems in medicine and healthcare, and address them using analytical methods, computer modelling, and advanced IT solutions
  • plan and carry out experimental research, analyse data, and use engineering equipment effectively
  • design and develop innovative technologies, devices, and systems that improve healthcare and patient outcomes
  • create medical equipment and solutions with respect for ethics, sustainability, and the needs of society
  • conduct research that advances medical technology and improves existing devices, methods, and procedures
  • work creatively, critically, and responsibly, while developing as a professional and a strong team member.

What are my career opportunities?

Medical engineers are highly sought after across a wide range of industries and organisations. As a graduate, you could work in:
  • hospitals, rehabilitation centres, and sports medicine clinics that use advanced medical technologies and equipment;
  • companies that design, develop, and manufacture medical, rehabilitation, and assistive technologies;
  • quality assurance and certification organisations that test medical devices for safety, performance, and compliance;
  • international medical technology companies operating in Lithuania and abroad;
  • orthopaedic companies producing prostheses, orthopaedic footwear, insoles, splints, and other personalised solutions.

You may also build a career as a medical engineer responsible for installing and maintaining complex equipment, training healthcare professionals, troubleshooting technical issues, and managing production or operational processes — with opportunities to grow into leadership and managerial roles.
