Programme overview

The study programme Financial Mathematics is of an application-based character. One-third of study subjects in the programme are dedicated to obtaining and deepening knowledge of mathematics (these are classical subjects that are taught at all universities throughout the world); the other two-thirds of subjects are focused on obtaining specialised competencies in economics, finance and IT as well as a purposeful combination of them. This provides conditions for the development of specialised competencies leading to the solution of the problems of prediction and optimisation, design and assessment of new financial instruments, modelling of contingencies and risks, assessment of principles of insurance against potential loss, etc.

Why choose this programme?

  • The programme provides a solid, high-level theoretical foundation needed to understand and apply state-of-the-art research results in practice. Students learn about the possibilities and restrictions of popular financial and actuarial models, tools and ideas.
  • The Financial and Actuarial Mathematics Master’s programme supports students in developing the competencies needed for the international labour market; in particular, the brightest students are strongly encouraged to pursue an academic career.
