Programme overview
Industrial biotechnology is a transformative field that uses biological processes and living cells to develop innovative bioproducts, thereby significantly impacting various industries. By studying key areas such as biotechnological processes, molecular biology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, bioprocess engineering, and biomanufacturing design, students in Industrial Biotechnology bachelor’s programme gain both knowledge and practical experience. The programme offers students an unique opportunity to study abroad at partner universities and experience different academic environments. Graduates of this programme can pursue careers in sectors such as biochemicals, biofuels, agriculture, biopharmaceuticals, and renewable bioenergy.

Programme Structure
Industrial Biotechnology study programme at KTU prepares students to identify key technologies that underpin bio-based innovation, solve a wide range of technological problems, and apply sustainability principles in the biotechnology industry. This programme provides students with:
- advanced knowledge of the life sciences, including fundamentals of biological sciences, molecular biology, and gene engineering;
- practical technological and engineering skills, including problem-solving in bioengineering, bioprocess engineering, bioinformatics, and biomodelling using professional software such as SuperPro Designer;
- competencies in the manufacturing of bioproducts;
- research experience and advanced bioprocess engineering skills gained through an internship project on real-world challenges.
The programme offers flexible learning pathways, allowing students to choose study modules from other fields to complement their core modules.
Admission requirements
Funding opportunities
All international students automatically become candidates to receive the Scholarship for International Students, which is assigned for first-year Bachelor or Master students with strong academic records and motivation.
The residents of European Union countries and the global citizens of Lithuanian origin can apply for state-funded study places. This means that all the applicants, who fall into one of the aforementioned categories, will participate in the general admission’s competition for state-funded study places and get the chance to study free of charge, depending on their admission score.

Campus life
The main KTU Campus is within walking distance from the city centre. In the campus, university sports halls and courts, dormitories, shops and recreational areas are all nearby. KTU boasts the active student community, with 6 art societies and over 20 students’ organisations. Our students can choose from 100 weekly sports classes, and join one of 20 sports teams. All of this is free of charge.
Over 40 thousand students study in Kaunas, and of these, around 10% are international students. Lush parks, lively squares, cosy cafes and buzzing cultural life make Kaunas attractive not only as a travel destination but also as a place to live.
