The rapid advancement of healthcare technologies and the growing demand for safe, sustainable, and innovative medical devices make the biomedical materials industry highly relevant worldwide. Biomedical Materials Industries bachelor’s study programme is designed to provide students with integrated competencies in natural resource technologies and chemical sciences essential for the research, design, and development of biomedical materials. The programme places a strong focus on the sustainable production of biomedical materials and their societal and environmental impact. Students gain hands-on experience through real-world product development projects, enhancing their teamwork, project management, and problem-solving skills in an industry-oriented learning environment. The programme also offers opportunities to participate in student exchange programmes and internships abroad, allowing students to gain valuable experience in companies, research centres, universities, and institutions worldwide. Graduates can pursue careers in laboratory work, quality assurance, consultancy, or research.

Programme Structure
Biomedical Materials Industries study programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience.This programme provides students with
- problem-solving skills in biomedical materials through teamwork, project management, and applying knowledge to real challenges in an industry-oriented environment;
- fundamentals of chemistry, biology, and materials science,providing key skills in inorganic and organic chemistry, polymers, biocomposites, cell biology, microbiology, human anatomy, and physiology;
- applied technologies in the development and production of biomedical materials;
- applied projects and sustainable solutions, allowing students explore product development, bioethics, and environmentally responsible approaches to creating innovative biomedical materials.
The programme offers flexible learning pathways tailored to students’ interests, as well as broad exchange possibilities.
Admission requirements
Funding opportunities
All international students automatically become candidates to receive the Scholarship for International Students, which is assigned for first-year Bachelor or Master students with strong academic records and motivation.
The residents of European Union countries and the global citizens of Lithuanian origin can apply for state-funded study places. This means that all the applicants, who fall into one of the aforementioned categories, will participate in the general admission’s competition for state-funded study places and get the chance to study free of charge, depending on their admission score.

Campus life
The main KTU Campus is within walking distance from the city centre. In the campus, university sports halls and courts, dormitories, shops and recreational areas are all nearby. KTU boasts the active student community, with 6 art societies and over 20 students’ organisations. Our students can choose from 100 weekly sports classes, and join one of 20 sports teams. All of this is free of charge.
Over 40 thousand students study in Kaunas, and of these, around 10% are international students. Lush parks, lively squares, cosy cafes and buzzing cultural life make Kaunas attractive not only as a travel destination but also as a place to live.
