Easing Conditions for Foreign Students Who are Seeking Employment

According to the latest information provided by the Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, starting from March 1, 2021, foreign students with a temporary residence permit issued as graduates of Lithuanian universities will be able to not only start looking for a job, but also to start working in self-employment!

This means, foreigners are now released from the obligation to obtain a decision of the Employment Service that his / her work meets the needs of the Lithuanian labor market. Also, a foreigner will have more time to submit an application for a temporary residence permit – he or she will be able to do so within 1 year from the date of obtaining a higher education qualification.

Additionally, starting March 1, 2021, not only foreign Doctoral students, but also Master’s degree students, as well as foreigners who have already completed their studies and have received a temporary residence permit will be able to work without the limitation of 20 hours per week, as it was the case up until now.
