Programme overview

If not for the transport innovations, our world, both literally and metaphorically speaking, would stand in one place. Vehicle engineering is one of the main driving forces of our economy, culture and technology. KTU’s bachelors in Vehicle Engineering study programme is designed to connect your future with the transportation and automotive industries.

During the studies, you will learn how to design and manufacture vehicles and their systems and components, to research and plan transport systems and processes, and to organise and manage traffic. You will also learn to tackle the creative challenges of transportation engineering, to anticipate future challenges in the transportation industry, and to provide solutions that will solve current problems or prevent them in the future.

Creativity is the programme graduates’ exclusive competence, very much sought after by the employers.

Ford Motor Company (Germany), JSC ALTAS Commercial Transport, Olsbergs Motorsports Evolution (Sweden), JSC Elinta, Gronholm RX Team (Finland), JSC Continental Automotive Lithuania, JSC Schmitz Cargobull Baltic (Germany/Lithuania), Public Enterprise Transport Competence Agency, Lithuanian Road Administration (under Ministry of Transport and Communication) are among the companies, where our graduates work.

The KTU’s Vehicle Engineering study programme is your opportunity to jump-start a successful career through involvement into the projects initiated and developed by our students: The Student Formula, Driving Simulator, Experimental Hybrid Vehicle, Electric Car, Electric ATV, Karting, Buggie, and by building experience through the activities in other countries: at Munich University of Applied Sciences, the Technical University of Berlin (Germany), NASA’S Ames Research Centre (the U.S.), etc.

  • Contemporary teaching and learning methods such as engineering team projects using diagnostic technologies and design environments – CATIA, ADAMS, SolidWorks
  • The programme is attended by highly talented and motivated students, which contributes to the creative atmosphere
  • Among the specialized research equipment and software available at the Transport and Mechatronic System Research and Aerodynamic Research Laboratories are wind tunnel, DL equipment for registration of vehicle movement dynamic parameters, TRITOP photogrammetry equipment for detection of deformations of vehicle structures, defectoscopes for non-destructive control, vehicle control and steering equipment with fuel monitoring capability and others

Funding opportunities

All international students automatically become candidates to receive the Scholarship for International Students, which is assigned for first-year Bachelor or Master students with strong academic records and motivation.

The residents of European Union countries and the global citizens of Lithuanian origin can apply for state-funded study places. This means that all the applicants, who fall into one of the aforementioned categories, will participate in the general admission’s competition for state-funded study places and get the chance to study free of charge, depending on their admission score.

Campus life

The main KTU Campus is within walking distance from the city centre. In the campus, university sports halls and courts, dormitories, shops and recreational areas are all nearby. KTU boasts the active student community, with 6 art societies and over 20 students’ organisations. Our students can choose from 100 weekly sports classes, and join one of 20 sports teams. All of this is free of charge.

Over 40 thousand students study in Kaunas, and of these, around 10% are international students. Lush parks, lively squares, cosy cafes and buzzing cultural life make Kaunas attractive not only as a travel destination but also as a place to live. In 2022, Kaunas will become a European Capital of Culture.

Admission Requirements

Proficiency in English Language requirements:

IELTS ≥5.5, TOEFL ≥75, CEFR ≥B1, or equivalent:

If you do not currently hold any English proficiency certificate, the English test can also be conducted by KTU during the admission process.


Minimum average grade (CGPA) > 60 % in each entry subject.

High school certificate

Maximum 3 years after high school graduation is eligible.

Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.

The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Russian.

The documents must be legalised (Apostille) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country where the documents were issued. This requirement does not apply for the documents issued in the EU and Belarus, Ukraine.
