Archaeology and History

The aim of the studies at Klaipeda University Institute of Baltic Region History and Archaeology is to allow the students to accumulate knowledge about pre-historical and historical times, to develop skills to convey the accumulated knowledge, forming the individual assessment. During the studies skills highly evaluated in the labor market are trained: information collection and its analysis, understanding the processes of the society, and the application of historical knowledge. Students learn to work with the material of archaeological and historical sources, prepare scientific reports, scientific texts, formulate analytic conclusions. During their studies, the students of Archaeology and History study programme acquire knowledge, develop their research skills, perform archaeological and archival practices, and go to exploratory studies in Lithuania and abroad. They will also gain the competences and qualification required for pedagogical work. The students could select two future opportunities: pursuing the archaeologist and historian career or the one of a teacher of history.

Career opportunities

Having graduated from Archaeology and History study programme, the graduates acquire the basic education in history and archaeology. They can continue their studies in Master’s study programme of History, Archaeology or any other Science of Humanities; work at schools of general education or in any other area related to history (in the area of education, carrying out scientific research, etc.); work at the institutions where the competences of a historian and archaeologist are regarded as an advantage. In order to start an individual practice of an archaeologist, one shall accomplish the Master’s degree studies at Klaipeda University or other universities.
