Environmental Engineering

The development of advanced environmental technologies, critical thinking and entrepreneurial competencies form a basis for an integrated approach needed to solve environmental business challenges. Master in Environmental Engineering study program is focused on fostering the above-mentioned competencies.

While studying at KTU, you will be educated on how to generate added value and create comprehensive technological and business answers to environmental problems. Environmental Engineering Master’s degree combines technological, analytical and managerial aspects of the environmental protection. During your studies, you will acquire skills of environment quality assessment, will learn how to apply modern environmental technologies to develop more sustainable and environmentally-friendly solutions for industry.

The Environmental Engineering degree programme has the longest track record of training environmental professionals in Lithuania. All international students automatically become candidates to receive the Scholarship for International Students, which is assigned for first-year Bachelor or Master students with strong academic records and motivation.

The residents of European Union countries and the global citizens of Lithuanian origin can apply for state-funded study places. This means that all the applicants, who fall into one of the aforementioned categories, will participate in the general admission’s competition for state-funded study places and get the chance to study free of charge, depending on their admission score.

Campus life

The main KTU Campus is within walking distance from the city centre. In the campus, university sports halls and courts, dormitories, shops and recreational areas are all nearby. KTU boasts the active student community, with 6 art societies and over 20 students’ organisations. Our students can choose from 100 weekly sports classes, and join one of 20 sports teams. All of this is free of charge.

Over 40 thousand students study in Kaunas, and of these, around 10% are international students. Lush parks, lively squares, cosy cafes and buzzing cultural life make Kaunas attractive not only as a travel destination but also as a place to live.

Chemical Engineering

The contemporary society’s constant need for more sophisticated products and sustainable processes means chemical engineers are in great demand. They bring about innovation and improvements in process industries, such as those concerned with the manufacture of chemicals, food, fuel and pharmaceuticals.

KTU’s Chemical Engineering master study programme is created at the junction of science and industry aimed at educating qualified technologists. Its curriculum was developed in cooperation with the largest chemistry companies in Lithuania.

During your studies, you will get knowledge and skills of the product design and processes, of technological systems management. You will gain an in-depth understanding of the processes and equipment of chemical technology. Product development, development of technologies and product quality control are the three key competencies that are particularly important for the professionals in this field. After graduating from MSc Chemical Engineering at KTU, you will be able to manage ongoing processes, and you will improve your products with the latest methods.

We aim at developing our students’ critical thinking and fostering their curiosity through both teamwork and independent study. The practical tasks, using advanced chemical engineering laboratories and analytical equipment, prepare our students for tackling larger problems that span traditional boundaries of engineering or chemistry.

Materials Physics and Nanotechnologies

Combining atoms and molecules to create new materials is an exciting occupation full of creative possibilities. Novel medicines, clean energy, contemporary electronic gadgets, and innovative solutions for building structures and transport – the application and demand for new materials is growing every day.

Applied Informatics and Programming

About the program

The objective of the Applied Informatics and Programming study programme – to prepare highly qualified specialists of Informatics study field, focused on the areas of software development or computer network administration, who are able to adapt to changes in contemporary market and are aware of importance of self-directed learning (self-study) and life-long learning.

Study program learning outcomes (after graduating from the studies, o person):

  • Applies knowledge of mathematics, theoretical informatics (computer science), data structures and algorithm, principles of technical and network equipment operation, protocols and standards when creating and analysing computer systems.
  • Is able to explain the latest technologies / solutions in the field of informatics (virtualization, cloud computing, embedded systems, etc.) and to use correct professional terminology in spoken and written language.
  •  Applies knowledge of structured and object-oriented programming (OOP), understand and apply different life cycle processes of computer systems.
  • Understandsintegrates and applies in practice the knowledge of different fields of sciences (physical, technological, social, the humanities) to solve problems in the area of the studied subject.
  • Is able to gatheranalyse, process data and interpret the obtained results required for solving specific professional problems
  • Applies theoretical knowledge in practice selecting appropriate methods, technical and software tools, programming languages, frameworks and modern programming environments for realization of specific tasks or projects
  • Applies agile methods in software development, according to customer requirements specify the process, component or software product by applying modern design tools and following the standards that prevail in the market.
  • Performs graphical and design work, creates databases, websites, and other simple software.
  • Applies knowledge of computerized hardware and architecture, hardware technical standards; install operating systems and other applied and special software. Is able to program smart equipment management software (program microcontrollers) or other special software.
  • Applies the acquired knowledge on cloud computing, computer networks, information transmission models, protocols and standards when configuring and testing networks, and is able to apply data protection tools.
  • Fluently and suggestively expresses his/her ideas in spoken and written language, communicates effectively and tolerantly with professionals and other persons when solving tasks related to professional activity in Lithuanian and a foreign language.
  • Works in a team implementing projects, solving professional activity tasks, assumes responsibility for the quality of his/her and subordinate employees’ activity.
  • Plans, organises his/her work and individually develops his/her skills understanding the importance of life-long learning and professional development.

Depending on chosen specialization, graduate also

  • Creates new web projects, web services or maintains and develops the existing ones by applying the selected programming languages, platforms or frameworks (Web development specialization).
  • Creates local and hybrid mobile applications, web services or maintains and develops the existing ones by applying the selected programming languages, platforms or frameworks; understand the Internet of Things technologies (Mobile Application Development specialization).
  • Diagnoses and eliminates software and technical computer networking equipment failures, administers servers and other network equipment and ensure safe data transmission through information system and uninterrupted operation of network services (Computer Network Administration specialization).

Career opportunities

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
1. Persons only with diploma of secondary education/or relevant can apply for studies in Lithuania Business University of Applied Sciences (LBUAS). Diploma of secondary education gained in international country must be certificated with by Apostille by Consulate. The studies are open to any age group.
2. LBUAS provides full time studies for international students in English and Russian languages.

PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY AND OCEANOGRAPHY

This study programme ensures research & practice-led studies of the physical environment with a special focus on the marine environment. The main aim of the programme is to prepare highly qualified specialists who are able to creatively apply the acquired knowledge of geo-information technologies and physical geography in the fields of the marine environment, land management, and environmental protection.

Graduates can interpret natural, climatic and social phenomena and can apply this knowledge in practice while working in various nature protection departments and other environmental protection institutions, or hydrometeorological services.
