Biomedical Materials Industries

Two track first cycle degree programme Biomedical Materials Industries is intended to acquire the integrated competencies in natural resource technologies and chemical sciences necessary for the research, design and development of biomedical materials and their sustainable production technologies, with a critical approach to their applicability and impact towards the society and the environment.

This study programme delivers both the theory and practical skills, elevance employers seek from graduates. The programme content encompasses all aspects of biomedical materials, including development, modelling and digitalization, manufacture, testing,  analysis of impact towards the society and the environment.

Applied Chemistry

This study programme trains highly qualified and creative specialists in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, functional substances, chemistry and technology, who are able to perform the procedures of synthesis and analysis, can work with various instrumental mechanisms, understand the chemical processes that take place during production and are able to solve the problems of production that may occur. This programme is exceptional because in addition to fundamental chemistry subjects, it includes modules of processes in biological systems and process engineering.

Medicinal Chemistry

Medicinal Chemistry – interdisciplinary area of studies and scientific research, which involves chemistry, biology, pharmacy and other sciences for creation and development of new medicines. The scope of the programme is preparation of qualified, motivated and creative specialists, who have deep knowledge of chemistry and research skills, are able to formulate and solve the issues of medicinal chemistry science and pharmaceutical industry, seeking to work at the high tech scientific and industrial companies, which produce and supply pharmaceutical preparations, or to continue their education in doctoral studies.

Materials Physics

Improvement of the properties of materials is one of the cornerstones of the modern world, leading to new, better products and equipment that are stronger, more sustainable and more efficient. It is such discoveries that the graduates of this program seek, who during their studies delve into fundamental and applied physics, study the structure of materials, ways to improve and synthesize materials.

At KTU, the students of MSc Materials Physics receive profound knowledge within physics and materials science and acquire research skills and in-depth theoretical and experimental knowledge of materials composition and improvement of their characteristics. This, together with the mastery of methodology and technique for technological measurements of materials, makes them proficient in processing and analysing experimental results.

Applied Chemistry

Chemistry is essential to our modern lives. The industrial applications of fundamental chemistry knowledge directly affect us daily – what we eat, what we wear, our transport, the technology we use, how we treat illnesses and how we get electricity – to name just a few.

The design of new sustainable materials and chemical products requires an understanding of the synthesis and physical/chemical properties of substances, as well as the relationship between the structure and the properties. While studying MSc Applied Chemistry at KTU, you will develop competence to analyse state-of-the-art products and innovative technologies, work with contemporary equipment.

During your studies, you will expand your understanding of the complex instrumental analysis processes and will learn to assess the value of new technologies. Your deep knowledge in chemistry and instrumental analysis together with research skills will equip you with an ability to form and solve both fundamental and industry challenges in the field.

8th PhD Summer School, 3-7 of June, 2024

PhD Summer School focuses on development of key competences required for achieving best results in successful defense of the doctoral dissertation and identifying further research directions.  Therefore topics of our PhD Summer Schools include: management of scientific research data, writing of scientific articles, project management, research integrity and ethics, intellectual property and patent system, communication skills development, etc.

PhD Summer School provides the opportunity for intellectually curious doctoral students to explore new knowledge, to expand cultural awareness and to exchange experience.
