Sports Studies at VDU is a unique program in Lithuania, based on the principles of the American Sport Education Program and characterized by broad-based coach training. This study program is the only one in the country that prepares coaches for all sports.

Public Health Education

The aim of the study programme is to prepare specialists who are able to organise and implement the functions and activities of a public health specialist and to organise and implement non-formal education programmes and activities for children and adults based on evidence-based practice, integrating the foundations of educational science.

Our study programme seek to strengthen your skills and knowledge in the role of a modern public health education specialist, helping you to plan and implement health promotion and education campaigns and programmes, and to form health policy and to set strategic goals by demonstrating leadership and communication skills. The programme is relevant for work in public health sector in order to address global public health challenges.

The main modules in the curriculum include: Health Education Theories and Modelling; Health Policy and Strategic Management; Non-formal Children and Adults Education Modelling, Health and Safety of Risk Groups and Educational Peculiarities, Common Health Problems, First Aid, and Prevention, etc.

Public Health

Public health is the population’s comprehensive physical, mental, and social well-being. During the study, public health specialists acquire leadership skills. They can analyze the population’s or target groups’ health status, assess demographic characteristics,  identify major health problems, contribute to disease and injury prevention and safety promotion, control outbreaks, and conduct screenings and vaccination programs. They develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention programs, plan and organize healthy lifestyle activities, and organize preventative activities in health care organizations. They promote overall health and well-being in the population they serve.

Nursing

The programme aims to prepare competent nurses with the knowledge, skills and abilities of nursing science and practice who can develop and improve professional, leadership, and teamwork competencies in pursuit of individual, family, community and public health. Upon completion of the four-year bachelor’s degree in nursing, graduates will obtain a university bachelor’s degree and a professional qualification as a general practice nurse.

Dental Hygiene

The aims of the Dental Hygiene Programme are to educate and train dental hygienists based on the requirements recognized in the EU, to create possibilities for acquiring the qualification of a dental hygienist, granting the right to provide healthcare services, to foster interest in the novelties of the science and practice of oral health care, to develop creative, scientific, and critical thinking, and the sense of intellectual satisfaction from studies or work.
These aims of the Dental Hygiene Programme are directly related to the mission of the Programme – to educate and train dental hygienists who are able to provide professional oral hygiene procedures and could cooperate with other health care specialists for ensuring individual and public health.

AFTER GRADUATION YOU CAN:

  • Continue your education by entering MSc programmes. Later PhD studies.
  • Practice dental hygiene. Work in public or private institutions conducting oral health care or other related areas of oral health care promotion.
  • Consult patients on issues of oral and dental diseasesꞌ prevention and healthy living preparing prevention programs for improving health maintenance factors.
  • Work with diagnostic dental equipment, devices, instruments, and materials applying measures of infection control and methods for completing oral care procedures.

Laboratory Medicine Biology

The LMB is of multidisciplinary (polyvalent) character. It encompasses the study main fields of lab diagnostics: Lab Biochemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology, Hemostasis, Immunology, Microbiology, Genetics, etc.
The excellent infrastructure results in exceptionally broad possibilities to gain Health Care labour market-oriented skills to the graduate in the largest health care institution, licenced to provide lab diagnostic and testing-related consulting services.

The programme offers a strong foundation in medical research methodology while allowing specialisation in individual interests. MSc Adapted Physical Activity

OBJECTIVES

This is a unique university study programme with the aim to train graduates in adapted physical activity (APA) who are capable to perform independent research, and work as leaders and experts in the field of empowerment of persons with disabilities for pursuing independence, equal rights, and opportunities as well as advocacy in order to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle.

COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to use advanced modern tools for testing and assessing biosocial and social functions, emotions and behavior, and physical capacity in persons with disabilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the provisions of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and their application of persons and their application in terms of equal opportunities and social inclusion.
  • Ability to critically evaluate and affect social policy in cases where discrimination or segregation of persons with disabilities is observed in society.
  • Knowledge of strategies for the organization of inclusive physical activities for persons with disabilities and awareness about the possibilities for using them to sustain the physical condition of persons with disabilities through cross-sector collaboration.

The learning outcomes of successful graduates relate to working independently to conduct research and/or continue third-cycle studies, making decisions based on research results, assuming researcher, the management, or expertise responsibilities, and establishing themselves in the labor market (either as employed persons or employees). Emergency Medical Aid

The aim of Emergency Medical Aid study programme is to provide higher college education in the field of medical technology which meets the European standards by preparing  specialist capable of providing the first and the necessary / emergency medical aid independently or with a medical team to persons of different ages, depending on the nature of injuries suffered and the degree of disorder of vital functions as well as of transporting patients and accident victims to medical facilities to ensure the necessary support of vital functions.

Distinctive features of a study programme: Emergency Medical Aid is the only study programme in Lithuania, training emergency medical professionals capable of providing immediate aid to patients of different age groups.
