WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY PROGRAMME?

Computer Engineering study programme teaches to develop modern computer systems and embedded computers as well as to develop modern services based on application of computers, to lead computer technology projects, to understand the latest and most significant computer engineering scientific research and development trends, to conduct research, and assess results.

WHAT WILL STUDENTS LEARN?

Graduates will be able to work and lead the groups in organizations, engineering or operating computer systems and embedded computers, which also provide computer technology services. Also graduates will be able to independently engineer modern computer systems hardware and software, adapt existing computer systems resources for additional operations and new company needs. In addition, graduates will be able to independently develop, operate and improve electronic devices with microcontrollers and programmable logic schemes.

WHAT IS THIS STUDY PROGRAMME AIM?

The program aims at preparing highly qualified information and information technology security specialists, by forming the systematic view on root causes of information security issues,  their prevention, solving and compensation methods, providing students with the newest knowledge and abilities from the professional and scientific point of view on modern information security insurance methods and technologies, developing original and critical thinking, managerial, research and innovation skills.

WHAT ARE THE OUTCOMES OF THIS STUDY PROGRAMME?

Knowledge

•    Knowledge of modern cyberthreats, vulnerabilities, risks and attack vectors, covering, but not limited to technological, physical security and social areas, ability to identify and neutralize them, minimize the consequences.
•    Understanding of information and information technology security principles and concepts, covering, but not limited to technological, organizational, social and legal aspects, knowledge of modern information systems security mechanisms and ability to apply them, perception of secure information system design and development methods and ability to integrate information security mechanisms into information security systems and processes.

Ability to Perform Research

•    Proficiency in defining perspective research areas, ability to perform literature analysis and cite the literature sources, to plan and to carry out the experiment in the defined problem area, to apply different analytical, modelling and experimental methods, to evaluate qualitative and quantitative information, to apply the experimental results for solving practical problems.
•    Ability to perform analysis, logical reasoning, to formulate constructive, reasoned conclusions and recommendations, to understand and criticize ideas and results of other researchers, to prepare scientific research publications, to participate in a scientific discussion.

Special Skills

•    Ability to integrate security mechanisms into software, information systems and processes, to apply cryptographic, secure programming and code security analysis, ethical hacking, cyberforensics, secure network and virtual infrastructure design methods,  understanding of specific security aspects of different operating systems, DBMS and other information systems.
•    Ability to evaluate the maturity of information systems and organisations from the security perspective, to apply risk management methods and requirements of information security standards and other regulating documents while organizing the business processes, ability to insure organization’s compliance and certification processes according to the security standards requirements, to maintain information security management processes, integrate them with other business processes, projects, to insure business process continuity.

Social Skills

•    Ability to work individually and in a team, to work with colleagues having different educational and professional background, to communicate orally and in writing, to submit proposals and effectively communicate with professionals from other areas.

WHAT ARE THE OUTCOMES OF THIS STUDY PROGRAMME?

The aim of study program is to make qualified engineers of informatics, who have knowledge about modern IT, information systems of companies, graphical systems and image processing. Moreover, this study program gives knowledge how to be able at work professionally apply gained knowledge at the University.
Study program is formed to form specialists of informatics by giving them the basics of fundamental sciences, basal and special informatics knowledge, and also to give basics of economics, law and business. In order to make qualified specialists of informatics, students of engineering informatics are provided with the following basics: mathematical analyses, theory of chances, basics of statistics and discrete mathematics. Furthermore, students study basal modules of informatics such as programming languages and algorithms, operating systems, architecture of computers, network of computers, engineering of program systems, systems of artificial intellect, programming of graphical systems.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

During the Information Technologies study programme students will learn to:
  • Evaluate new theories of informatics;
  • Apply methods and technologies of systems modulation and projection;
  • Project and install modern systems of programs;
  • Recognize, formulate and solve IT problems;
  • Work with IT;
  • Consult about IT issues;
  • Relate IT science with other fields.
Students will be aware of modern modeling, data extraction and operating methods. Moreover, students will be aware of architecture of modern computers and networks, newest technologies of computer systems, development of technological tendencies and principles of projection of systems.
What is more, students will learn how responsibly and self-dependently organize work, smoothly, sequentially and clearly express minds. Also, they will learn how to think logically, critically and constructively.

The aim of study programme is to prepare students’ skills to program and independently master new programming languages and software tools. To develop an ability to design the electronic equipment based on the microcontrollers and FPGA, to develop the microcontroller programs, to use the software dedicated to the programming of microcontrollers and simulation of the equipment based on the microcontrollers.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

  • Fundamentals of general technological sciences;
  • Knowledge about materials used in computer engineering and their properties;
  • Knowledge on embedded computer;
  • To select and use mathematical methods, software and hardware in order to solve problems in the field of computer engineering;

WHAT ARE THE OUTCOMES OF THIS STUDY PROGRAMME?

To provide students with enough knowledge base of the mathematics and other physical sciences, fundamentals of informatics engineering science, engineering design and to develop skills in applying that knowledge in the engineering practice. To develop a need to be interested in news on informatics engineering science, to apply them in various circumstances, to be able to combine application skills with fundamentals of management, knowledge of humanities and social sciences, to recognize influence and significance of engineering decisions on the social development, to work in a global engineering marketplace and to use hi-tech technologies. To develop wide erudition, ability to critically analyze and creatively solve problems in the field of informatics engineering. To develop an ability to maintain professional competence throughout life-long learning.

Artificial Intelligence in Computer Science

The field of Artificial Intelligence and Informatics is undergoing highly dynamic development. KTU MSc Informatics  study programme is designed to convey the competences for the students needed to actively contribute to the process of improvement and innovation.

At KTU, you will study cloud computing, modern artificial intelligence methods and techniques, data analysis, project management,  virtual reality and 3D modelling and will learn how these techniques can be applied to the development of the final  IT product. From the first semester of study, students are given the opportunity to specialize in a narrower field of study, thus acquiring the competence of an expert in the field of Image Synthesis and Analysis or Distributed and Mobile Computing.

Our graduates not only have deeper knowledge in the fields of Applied Informatics and Artificial Intelligence, but also are able to take decisions and independently perform scientific research, develop new, intelligent IT solutions, plan and coordinate work of IT specialists and lead the development of IT projects.

All international students automatically become candidates to receive the Scholarship for International Students, which is assigned for first-year Bachelor or Master students with strong academic records and motivation.

The residents of European Union countries and the global citizens of Lithuanian origin can apply for state-funded study places. This means that all the applicants, who fall into one of the aforementioned categories, will participate in the general admission’s competition for state-funded study places and get the chance to study free of charge, depending on their admission score.

Campus life

The main KTU Campus is within walking distance from the city centre. In the campus, university sports halls and courts, dormitories, shops and recreational areas are all nearby. KTU boasts the active student community, with 6 art societies and over 20 students’ organisations. Our students can choose from 100 weekly sports classes, and join one of 20 sports teams. All of this is free of charge.

Over 40 thousand students study in Kaunas, and of these, around 10% are international students. Lush parks, lively squares, cosy cafes and buzzing cultural life make Kaunas attractive not only as a travel destination but also as a place to live.

Informatics

KTU is the leader in Lithuania in providing computer science studies, and the bachelor’s study programmes in this field are constantly in the list of the most popular ones among the prospective students.

Bachelor’s in Informatics studies focus on technologies of programming, the internet and three-dimensional graphics.
