PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Open application for a highly motivated doctoral candidate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The doctoral candidate position is available in the Faculty of Electronics Department of Electrical Engineering. Applicants interested in other research topics related to bioelectronics and applied pulsed power biomedical technologies are also welcome to apply.

Study Programme Structure

  • Independent research under supervision;
  • Courses for PhD students (approximately 30 ECTS credits);
  • Participation in international conferences and research networks, including an international internship at other, research institutions;
  • Presentation of research results in international scientific conferences and publications of scientific journals (WOS);
  • Teaching or another form of knowledge dissemination, which is related to the PhD topic when possible;
  • The completion of a PhD thesis.

Academic requirements

  • Postgraduate diploma (or higher);
  • The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English;
  • You must take verified copies of the entry qualification documents along with you when you finally go to the university.

Scholarships and Funding

  • The state-funding or self-funded studies are available;
  • Lithuanian state scholarships for 1st year of studies 1045 Eur/month, and 2nd-4th year of studies 1210 Eur/month);
  • Grants for doctoral studies and research;
  • Grants for international academic mobility.

Annual Tuition Fee

  • full-time studies – 11 837,00  (4-year);
  • part-time studies – 7 891,00  (6-year).

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY PROGRAMME?

Energy systems in buildings are by far one of the largest energy consumers, and the production of energy for them is the most polluting and significant in terms of climate change. This is why energy engineering is still one of the fastest growing activities in the world.

The design of such systems requires comprehensive engineering knowledge, so the purpose of the Master’s study programme Buildings Energy Engineering is to train specialists who are able to critically analyze, model and integrate the building’s energy systems and processes into them.

Such specialists are able to apply innovative technologies and smart solutions for evaluation, design, installation, usage, management and maintenance of the building’s smart energy systems.

The Building Energy Engineering program covers many areas – from building, modeling of energy systems, thermodynamic and life-cycle analysis to renewable energy systems, process integration and management of energy demand.

WHAT WILL STUDENTS LEARN?

  • Assess the need for research into energy engineering, plan studies, choose the most appropriate methods, means of performance, investigate and evaluate the result using information technology;
  • Analyze and forecast energy processes, characteristics of installations and systems, and perform calculations of their most important parameters;
  • Assess consumers’ energy demand, analyse energy supply opportunities and plan the adaptation and development of energy systems;
  • Define, analyze, model and improve processes in buildings’ energy systems.

Biomechanics (Medical Engineering)

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY PROGRAMME?

Study programme aims to prepare professionals of Biomechanics who, after completing the study program, would successfully enter the labor market related to the field of medical and biomechanical engineering, could be employed in industrial or state enterprises or in other fields chosen by the graduate. Alternatively, such graduates could pursue a degree and contribute to the well-being of the country and society through the application of: engineering practices and critical thinking acquired through continuous professional development and competence in lifelong learning.

WHAT WILL STUDENTS LEARN?

  • Will gain basic knowledge in fundamental sciences, biomechanics and engineering, and integrate the methods and processes of other fields of science into the multidisciplinary engineering context.
  • Will acquire knowledge about the social and psychological problems of the disabled, the technical aids of the design, possibilities and principals of the environment adaption and technical assistance means.
  • Will be able to plan and conduct experimental research, analyze and interpret the received data. Skills in working with special equipment.
  • Will be competent to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems; able to select and apply appropriate analytical and modeling methods; able to design a system, unit or process to achieve the desired goal and with real economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, technology and sustainability constraints.
  • Will be able to understand design techniques and be able to apply them; able to choose and apply modern engineering methods and skills, tools necessary for professional activities.
  • Will be capable to combine theoretical and applied engineering knowledge to solve problems, to understand the influence of engineering decisions in the global, economic, environmental and social context.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY PROGRAMME?
Today environmental protection is more important than ever to global societies and scientific studies show that global warming, pollution levels are increasing.
The Environmental Engineering study programme not only provides environmental knowledge, but also helps to develop the ability to monitor and evaluate the extent of environmental pollution, plan and implement engineering measures to prevent environmental pollution, improve the quality of the environment, and design modern environmental facilities to improve human well-being.
Knowledge of environmental processes, environmental technologies, sustainable development, and the principles of environmental economics and law is essential to ensure the well-being of every inhabitant of the world, a safe and clean environment.
Environmental Engineering studies will introduce you to technical, technological and organizational solutions in various areas of environmental engineering. Here you will learn how to design the latest water, wastewater, air purification, waste management and physical pollution abatement equipment using advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
  • To identify the most important environmental problems, to apply the latest methods and measures with the least negative impact on the environment, to select and apply research methodologies for the control of environmental protection processes;
  • To design and select technological and organizational measures to manage climate change and improve the quality of the environment;
  • To implement preventive environmental management measures, to develop cleaner production principles  and advanced environmental technologies in line with the concept of sustainable development;
  • To analyse and apply wastewater, air purification, waste management technologies, to understand new environmental equipment and perform their maintenance;

The Master’s study programme “Sustainable and Energy-efficient Buildings” is designed for persons that graduated from the Bachelor’s study programmes in Construction Engineering, Construction Technology, Building Engineering Systems or Energy Engineering and those willing to gain knowledge and be able to systematically analyse, assess and design building engineering systems, building micro-climate, building conformity with the principles of sustainable construction, energy costs, renewable energy source technology, system management principles, energy accumulation, transmission and consumption technology, perform their maintenance and be able to carry out the building energy efficiency inspection.

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering

Man’s dream to fly dates back to ancient times and has now come true. The history of aviation has stepped into its second century and needs you to help it develop faster and further. If you are interested in the construction of aircraft, helicopters, gliders, their engines and mechanical systems, you are excited about an international career in the rapidly developing field of aviation, this study programme will help you launch your career and, literally, fly high.

This study programme allows students to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge with future engineers studying mathematics, physics, IT, engineering graphics, aircraft propellers, fuel, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, materials and components, fundamentals of aviation law, etc. The knowledge gained is consolidated and improved during practical training and internships, which last 20 weeks altogether and are conducted in three stages:

  1. Introductory training – performed at KTK;
  2. Aircraft technology internship – performed at partner companies;
  3. Final internship – performed at partner companies.

AFTER GRADUATION YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:
