Italian Philology

“All roads lead to Rome!” This ancient saying is still relevant today. The Italian language, literature, and culture can open up many diverse paths.

Students of Italian Philology will learn the Italian language professionally and become familiar with the history of Italy and the history of Italian literature and language. During their studies, they will develop skills to analyze and assess the Italian language, culture, and literary phenomena in a broader context. Understanding the cultural and social specifics of the country, graduates will also gain competencies in translation and cultural mediation.

Classes are taught by highly qualified lecturers, most of whom are native speakers.

The programme is tailored to individual student needs, as it offers the opportunity to choose a certain number of subjects from other fields of study.

Graduates will be able to understand, create, and edit texts of various genres in the Italian language, choose appropriate language tools and styles, and communicate correctly and effectively in Italian (C1/C2) in various situations. They will be able to research a linguistic or literary problem, describe the results of the research in an academic text, present it publicly, and defend their opinion. They will be able to analyze Italy’s sociocultural context, identify the most prominent features of Italian culture, and evaluate it within a broader context.

Students from the EU/EEA, Lithuanian nationals residing abroad, and people of Lithuanian origin can apply for a state-funded study place.

Central and East European Languages and Cultures (Russian Studies)

This programme aims at training qualified critically and creatively thinking specialists who have:

  • solid ground in linguistics, literary studies, translation and intercultural communication;
  • excellent knowledge of Russian culture and history, understanding of the peculiarities of social media;
  • skills to create and analyse texts of various styles and to evaluate Russian language, literature and cultural phenomena in literary, scientific, socio-cultural geopolitical, and geo-cultural contexts of Europe and the world.

Studies with a perfect balance of language and literature also provide knowledge of other Central and East European countries’ literature and culture.

The programme is flexible and open to students’ interests – it allows them to choose Minor studies of any other language and its culture, to choose various subjects from different fields, or to direct their studies towards linguistics or literature studies.
A universal humanities education and specific practical skills open up a wide range of employment opportunities in cultural, educational, media and other fields.

The programme can be studied in English or Russian.

For beginners in Russian: The language of instruction is English, and learning the Russian language begins upon enrollment.

For advanced speakers: The language of instruction is Russian, and learning continues in an advanced-level group.

Design (Vilnius)

Profile of the programme:

Design studies are based on practical, experimental activities, design research, theoretical classes professional advices and critics. During the studies, innovative products are developed. Students learn how to research and solve the functional, socio-cultural or economic problems, also take account environmental and sustainability issues of product design. The projects created by students win prestigious international design awards, become real products of companies, outlining future lifestyle trends.

Graphic Art (Vilnius)

Profile of the programme:

In the first two years of the studies the students get acquainted with the traditional and the latest graphic art technologies – lithography, woodcut, linocut, etching, silkscreen, digital printing, photogravure, offset lithography and the principles of printmaking. The students study typography and calligraphy, illustration, publication planning, complex book design, bookbinding and book-object. In Year III, the students choose a further and more specialised study field: printmaking, illustration and book art. Years III and IV are dedicated to search for individual expression and experimenting, the students get engaged in intensive creative work and carry out conceptual visual art projects.
Graphics study programme is tailored to make students’ experience personally meaningful and this meaning would motivate their development. Students are educated to be active study programme creators and participants. During all the studies additionally to compulsory speciality subjects they choose appropriate optional fine arts field and general university subjects; students are stimulated to go to study and improve their knowledge in other European higher art education institutions and universities under Erasmus and Nord Plus programmes and after returning share gained experience with fellow students and lecturers. The study programme consists of: general compulsory university studies subjects (art history and theory, philosophy and etc..), study field compulsory subjects (visual expression, print, book art, graphics projects and etc..) and optional theoretical and study field subjects. Additional development of specialization subjects and general competences in a formal way is promoted (choosing subjects of art field or other study fields).

Computer Science

The full-time program (with a course load of 30 credits per semester) is offered in two formats – oncampus and online. With on-campus learning, students live and study in Vilnius, attending classes both offline and online. The online format involves distance learning from Monday to Friday during the day, with two to three offline sessions of up to five days throughout the academic year. For online learning, students can be located in any country but must attend the on-campus sessions held on location in Vilnius.

The part-time program is a less intensive form of learning (21–24 credits per semester) with regular online classes during non-working hours and mandatory offline sessions two to three times a year. Students can work or study simultaneously.

This means that all the applicants, who fall into one of the aforementioned categories, will participate in the general admission’s competition for state-funded study places and get the chance to study free of charge, depending on their admission score.

The main KTU Campus is within walking distance from the city centre. In the campus, university sports halls and courts, dormitories, shops and recreational areas are all nearby. KTU boasts the active student community, with 6 art societies and over 20 students’ organisations. Our students can choose from 100 weekly sports classes, and join one of 20 sports teams. All of this is free of charge.

Over 40 thousand students study in Kaunas, and of these, around 10% are international students. Lush parks, lively squares, cosy cafes and buzzing cultural life make Kaunas attractive not only as a travel destination but also as a place to live. In 2022, Kaunas will become a European Capital of Culture.
