Where do Lithuanian universities rank in QS World University Rankings?

Every day “Study in LT“ team receives messages from interested international students who are in the process of deciding whether or not Lithuania is a suitable study destination for them.

Students usually ask such questions as “What are the top universities in Lithuania?” and “What are the admission requirements?”. There currently are more than 40 different universities and schools of applied science in Lithuania, each of them offering a wide variety of study programmes taught in English. As each university is a separate institution, each one has a different set of requirements and admits students through a separate application process.

Understandably, it is easy to get lost among the information online.

To make things a bit easier – four Lithuanian universities feature in the QS World University Rankings 2016-2017, with a further three in the QS University Rankings: EECA, a ranking of the top universities in emerging Europe and central Asia. The four highest-ranked universities in Lithuania are:

Vilnius University, currently ranked 481-490 in the world and 21st in the EECA region;
Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, currently ranked 701+* in the world and 43rd in EECA;
Kaunas University of Technology, currently ranked 701+ in the world and 51st in EECA;
Vytautas Magnus University, ranked 701+ in the world and 77th in EECA in 2016-2017.

However, while this list narrows the number of Lithuanian higher education institutions down to the highest-ranked, it does not mean that these 4 are the only choices worth considering. Study programmes in every Lithuanian university are of high quality and each one is evaluated according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
