Feedback of lecturers and students

Prof. Rolandas Bleizgys, Faculty of Engineering: “The programme is aimed at individuals unafraid of challenges and committed to ‘creating a sustainable world’, establishing digital engineering systems, and implementing them in biological systems while collaborating with robots. The programme integrates crucial disciplines: engineering, informatics, and biology. Excellent conditions have been established to nurture young talents into proficient specialists, greatly sought after in the job market. Studies are conducted in close collaboration with social partners (over 40 companies): benefactors, sponsors, research, and educational partners. From the onset of their studies, students have the opportunity to visit business establishments, gaining insight into the field of study not solely through academia and science but also in a commercial setting, witnessing the practical application of their studies and career prospects. University benefactors have equipped laboratories and offer the chance to utilise the latest engineering solutions in the learning process.”

Albinas Šulinskas, programme partner, director of the Swedish company JSC “DeLaval”: “This is an exceedingly promising discipline that prepares future specialists to effectively communicate, even with robots. The job market has a significant demand for knowledgeable professionals in smart technologies capable of generating value for the company.”

Diana Tatarūnaitė-Zubenienė, director of JSC “DOJUS agro”: “The agricultural sector is undergoing a revolution: integrated solutions utilising vast amounts of data, their analysis, and application for more sustainable and productive work represent our present and the only foreseeable future. The role of a precision agriculture specialist presents an opportunity to drive change alongside the most progressive companies in the country.”

Marius Kazlauskas, JSC “Precision farming” (Agricon) consultant: “The modernising agricultural sector has an urgent requirement for sustainability engineering professionals capable of achieving more with less. Acquired knowledge and developed skills to embrace intelligent sustainable engineering solutions and apply them in production enable the reduction of escalating production resources, leading to increased profits while simultaneously safeguarding the environment.”

Competencies acquired

The graduates of this programme possess a unique set of skills honed at the crossroads of engineering, informatics, and various sciences, with an exclusive focus on innovation, applying sustainable principles, and implementing them within the agricultural and organic waste management sectors.

The programme offers opportunities to acquire competencies that are highly sought after in the job market – the ability to implement digital engineering innovations in biological systems and effectively operate robots: “the robot does the work, and I oversee.” This programme merges engineering with informatics, fostering the capacity to design production technologies employing engineering tools and digital technology methods. It equips individuals to ‘communicate’ with robots, drones, and utilise intelligent engineering systems and artificial intelligence programmes. This, in turn, modernises agricultural production and enhances the utilisation of organic waste.

Career opportunities

The study programme “Sustainable Engineering” is dedicated to nurturing highly skilled sustainability engineering specialists. This empowers future graduates of the programme to adapt to the demands of the job market and either establish their own engineering consultancy or excel in roles within international corporations as engineers, experts, technologists, consultants, environmental inspectors, project and production managers.

The professional endeavors of graduates are entwined with various companies engaged in identifying and comprehensively resolving engineering challenges. This involves designing and implementing engineering systems in the agricultural sector, the production of food and feed raw materials, bioenergy production, technical expertise, conformity assessment, quality control, consulting, and with firms responsible for executing the European Green Deal. Graduates possess an expansive professional scope, hence, their demand is exceedingly high.
